Most of the work of the Georgia SPCA is handled by volunteer workers. Office volunteers are very important to our operation since they represent a public face of the organization. You will encounter the normal range of activities found in a busy office - greeting the public, answering the phone, making copies, entering information about our pets into our database, etc. In addition to these duties, our pets require walking and there is a lovely park directly across the street. So if you're looking for a satisfying volunteer experience, consider volunteering to work in our main office.
What is Required
Office volunteers should have these skills:
Because of your interaction with the public, you must dress presentably and enjoy working with people. It is important that you remember that choosing a pet to adopt is a sometimes stressful family situation that requires tact on your part.
You must have good telephone etiquette.
Ideally you should possess some basic computer skills including familiarity with word processing.
Prior office experience is definitely a plus, but is not necessary.
PLEASE NOTE - Office Volunteers are sometimes asked to help with Kennel Volunteer tasks.
You should expect to volunteer eight or more hours per month. One day per week is ideal. This level of activity is required so that you can effectively keep us with the activities, policies and procedures of the center and be well-informed as you work with the public.
My Office Experience
"There is nothing like seeing the joy in a small child's eyes when a family decides to adopt a pet from us. I know that the work I am doing at the center - working with families, helping exercise the dogs, playing with the cats, is exactly what I was meant to do."
