Volunteer to work on Special Events

The Georgia SPCA holds several major fundraising events each year.  Our Fall Benefit Bash for example, is held annually at the Gwinnett Center.  In addition, we host a "Run For the Rescues" 5K race event that typically has 1,000 or more runners turning out to support our activities.  In addition to the participants in these fundraising events, we work to recruit event sponsors who help support our activities.  These events take tremendous planning and organization to be successful.  Smaller events held throughout the year (especially around holidays) also require coordination.

What is Required

There is a broad range of criteria that are highly desirable in a Special Events Volunteer.  These include

  • A willingness to work until the job is completed on tasks you are assigned
  • A network of contacts in the community through involvement in other civic or religious organizations
  • Ability to work with others in pursuit of a common goal
  • A vivacious personality

Volunteer activities tend naturally to increase in time required as the event approaches.  But you should expect to be involved in planning sessions and to be contacting people about sponsoring events as much as a year ahead of time.

My Experience as a Special Events Volunteer
"I enjoy working with people as well as a good party.  I feel good that I was able to make contacts with some businesses I work with in my job that were willing to participate with me in supporting the Georgia SPCA.  At times the work was stressful as the event approached, but the party, the people and the funds raised made all my efforts worthwhile."
